Why is there peace in Senegal?

What conditions help support  the creation of a peaceful and religiously tolerant society?  Natasha Dyer from ‘Communicating for Change’ blog gives an thoughtful review of her observations from a recent visit to Senegal.

A former French colony in western Africa, Senegal is a Muslim-dominated country where a Christian minority (5%) is well respected and has a long-running history of living peacefully with the Muslim majority.
